My personal studies had encompassed reading poetry, Western philosophy, Khalil Gibran's works, Psychologists like Carl Jung, Cosmology per P.D. Ouspensky, Zen, Herbs, old cookbooks and the like. My friend Lilith (see link to her site below) and I would have deep conversations about why we are living, how Earth began and what the Universe is, how it works and where it ends. We gave each other a lot of support as to the fact that we're not like the nice, "normal," average housewife/mothers. We decided we're okay. Our intelligence is made to use....but what the heck were we going to do with it? We were somewhat dismayed at this need to know~~It was so difficult to relate to conversations about what laundry soap was best and what happened that day on "As The World Turns." Today, in our Golden (if not gold-laden) years, we've arrived! NO, not at wealth, fame, recognition! Who cares? We've arrived at a point of knowing that wisdom is it's own gain....we're doggone happy not to be "normal" when it means average, unimaginative! We agree that all we've accumulated has taken us beyond ourselves and at the very least provided a legacy to be drawn on through our book collections and any of our family and acquaintances who care to know....in fact, it's never too late to create new work, new careers upon the time and energy well-spent. |
When Providence moved and I became unnerved enough to demand of the Universe that a Teacher be availed to me, I met Dr. Robert Sohn. A friend simply said, at my wailing demands: "I have a place for you." (see the link below for "A Great Man.") The key thing I learned from Dr. Sohn was ECLECTICISM...Seeing the All in the One; the One in the All. But studying all religions and seeing the One-Point of Truth, then observing the smaller Truths, still large~~that support it, proof becomes apparent and proved. Dr. Sohn always admonished the proofing by one's own studies...never to take his or anyone's word for it. Growing up, religion tried to teach me that all but Catholics would go to Hell...I couldn't posit that God could base who entered Heaven by which creation of man they followed. Further studies revealed through T'ai Chi Chuan that indeed principles of Physics are at root in all things~~three energies needed to create any materialization. The Yin/Yang symbol led to a new sense of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Body, Mind and Emotion, Dr. Sohn pointed out, are the three forces that must be balanced in humans before Higher Consciousness is availed to the organism. PBS provided me a furthering of these concepts when Yehudi Menhuin was featured and he spoke of his work and learning from Ravi Shankar! Master Menhuin learned T'ai Chi of arm, wrist and hand!! To relax and separate muscles, he gained speed and agility he'd not had till then. This impressed me again with the benefit of learning from other Cultures, to beware the "purist" view. Pride in one's roots is valid, but when we try to live in a tunnel leading to a narrow destination, there's a good chance we'll get drowned in a flood before reaching the end. |
