CEREMONY YOUR WAY
How do you define your beliefs?
Triangulation, or creating balance between joy and sorrow, celebration, honoring, receiving and closure is basically what I practice. I see the joy, and choose the expressions that cause that to blossom. I see the loss, and describe what that loss is and how we can keep the essence of its grandeur and grace; how we can continue in it's honoring. I see new Life and speak it into Vitality!
We are spiritual beings living in physical vehicles. We have an innate longing and need to describe for ourselves what that connection is, and how it is even possible. Through Myth, Ceremony and Ritual we express ourselves, satisfy our longings and concretize our Knowing that we are That; we are Beloved, and are Loving.
This can be in Traditional ways or eclectically developed from various traditions that express beliefs and experiences of those celebrating or seeking help or comfort. A ceremony can be as simple as speaking one's Intention and burning some Sage.
The moment we close our eyes to contact our Center, we are in ceremony. We are attempting to contact or encompass our Spirit...or to ask it to encompass us, or even at times to Return to us.
Beau Ives describes "The purpose of Ceremony is to create a forcefield around your idea or Intention, so no one or nothing can interfere or disrupt it."
Ceremony is usually in a group, but individual ceremony is often important and desirable. In Cochise' Stronghold, I performed a lone ceremony in my Daughter's behalf. It was for myself as well, to strengthen me out of my fear and distress; to feel that I was enlisting all the help she and I could get. When I completed my Native-American oriented ritual, I stood back to see that the rock I'd chosen for my 'altar' is anatomically akin to women. I was astonished, and humbled at the guidance that had given me that site to 'worship' in honor of a woman so dear to me.
As I develop this page, I will describe in more detail the ways that I have expressed Spirit, Evolution and Transformation in Blessings, Funerals, Memorials, Weddings and Healing Ceremony.
For instance, in the Autumn we honor the passages of all life into new form, and All Souls Here Now and those Passed; with Samhain, Halloween, and All Souls Day.
I like to create a circle with stones and crystals of color to honor the 8 directions. In the South, the direction of the Ancestors, Maha Durga and Shiva may stand. Each is a divinity of Creation and Destruction.
Khalil Gibran said it so well..."Even as love is for your Crowning; so too for your pruning.." It's an important point to cherish.
In the All Souls Circle we honor Ourselves, our Ancestors, people we miss who have transitioned, and those who we feel we never had a chance to make closure with before their crossing of the River between Worlds. We remember and honor those that may be stuck between worlds, and remind them that there is more learning to be done, that we are okay and we release them...that they are safe and may leave with our love and blessings to continue their work on the other side; the unknown but purported "University of Higher Learning" where we are tutored in the Mysteries of Life. Tibetans call that unknown "Bardos." People who work in other ways talk about Ascended Masters, of which Jesus is one.
Knowing the miracle of birth, living and learning as we experience it...it takes a mere stretch of the imagination to accept that it's quite feasible that our Consciousness continues to connect with Master Teachers after death. We consider this.
Each participant has given remembrance for any dear to them with offerings of soil from all over the United States, Corn kernels, seeds, herbs and incenses. We offer the Seed of Creation for their nurture, the Earth, and ourselves. We give our carefully considered Intent for the well-being of All Life, that it may prosper and grow.
Throughout the world, images of death and rebirth abound to explain the phenomena of Life's Cycles. With the Corn Maiden, the Corn God, Isis and Osiris, we consider and support the seeming death and rebirth of Sun and Moon.
We remember Earth as she relinquishes her Bounty to the use and enjoyment of Humanity. She seems now to enter a death, yet it is a hibernation...a transformation of and conservation of energies as she approaches Winter, and we with her. Our Exquisite Earth is the ultimate Mother; she provides abundantly for us before taking her rest.
Honoring our loved ones who have Transitioned is often an uncomfortable challenge. I act as a mediary for Spirit and Family, helping your process and creating a ceremony. You may want to remember myths that describe your beliefs, or choose readings from Scripture and build a Funeral Memorial on that; we want to bring the beliefs of your departed into it.
Above we see Toth weighing the Soul of a newly deceased person.
We are all part of the same Creation and the Universe reflects the reality of As Above So Below. I believe that Life continues as our Energy infuses in new ways into the Cosmos. References to the Moon and Stars may assist your story.
Dragonfly is a Totem that brings messages from the newly departed Soul. They show up for me often, even have consoled me upon the unexpected passing of a dear Uncle.
Butterflies are well-known as a symbol for Metamorphosis; Change from one form into another. At an outdoor funeral service a butterfly danced over my head as I spoke for the departed.
Bike and Biker Blessings are a joy. This one was for Jugs-n-Strokers in Merrick, Long Island in 2000, not 1997 (the defaulted date which one day I'll take the time to correct.)
Below is one of the eight annual Itsy Bitsy Spider Runs I officiated in memory of Laura Steckler for the Iron Maidens Motorcycle Club of Long Island, New York. Each was different and very special. This day the wind had other ideas for my covering for the "altar"...you can see Shiva dancing "Lila," the Dance of Life; He has one foot on Earth... connected to life as we know it. The other foot is raised in acknowledgement of His Knowing that there is more...other Life. With a feather I send the fragrant Sage into the Universe, over the Congregation, and onward for the Soul of the Dear Friend who left Earth so early. Holy Water is in the bottles, the basket containing many bits of Earth signifying the Unity of all who attend, and the Earth that we are...and the potential for Rebirth and Growth again, again and again is present also.
My biker page called "in The Wind" honors the wonderful people that brave traffic and weather to actualize the joy of their authentic selves.
Have a heart and watch out for them!

With Love to You Brilliant Minds and Gentle Spirits!
This lovely hand-sketched and colored totem was made for me in California on my "Maiden Voyage." I met the street Artist in St. Luis Obispo, and sat watching him work. By now, he may be famous! I added the feather, which came from my Grandson's Polish Chicken. This is one way that ritual and ceremony arise; when we create art that is significant for us.
